WHAT IS A NBN LEAD-IN?
A Lead-In cable installation is a physical connection between your home and the NBN network, that allows home phone and internet services to be supplied to your property. NBN is responsible for supplying the majority of the network, however, you’re responsible for supplying the trench or lead-In conduit to the PEP (Property Entry Point). On private property through which the NBN Lead-in cable will be installed through to the NTD or 1st point.
The network owner ( NBN) is responsible for the connection from PEP to the pit, or to save time you can engage a certified contractor to complete the work connecting your lead-in into the pit. A Lead-In installation whether underground or aerial can be determined by the network type installed in your street.
DO I NEED ONE?
You may require a new NBN Lead-In if you’re requesting a new home phone service, bundle internet service, or cable internet service and your property fits one of the following descriptions:
- You have a new property.
- It’s been renovated.
- There has been a knockdown/rebuild.
- There has never been a home phone or cable internet connection before.
If your property has had a previous home phone or cable internet connection (and no renovations or re-development has occurred), It’s likely that your home already has a lead-in cable installed. An indication of an existing NBN lead-in is a grey wall box on the side of the property or an overhead aerial cable directly from a street pole to the property.
REPAIRING DAMAGED UNDERGROUND NBN LEAD-IN CABLE:
We can locate damaged or blocked underground lead-in conduits for your NBN, and repair as required in order to be able to reinstall a new NBN lead-In cable. This is a more cost-effective solution than spending thousands to have a complete new lead-in pipe installed.
With most copper NBN lead-ins now being in place for over 30 years, this can be a result of internet faults. These include drops-outs, high resistance causing slow speeds being unable to connect.
We can test and repair all internet faults and provide a report or resolution to repair your service.
